WORM LIZARD, common name for wormlike reptiles that comprise the suborder Amphisbaenia in the order Squamata, which also includes lizards and snakes. This usually limbless reptile lacks external eyes and ears and has scaly skin folded into rings. Worm lizards are found in tropical areas throughout the world, usually in underground burrows where they feed on insects and worms. |
